Mariann Máray grew up and currently lives in Budapest. She is a visual artist and author working in illustration, painting and making books ­­– with or without words. She is also a mother of four and, perhaps because of this she has been embedded in the world of children’s books for many years.

Her artwork have been exhibited at such places as the 2017 Biennal of Illustrations Bratislava, The Bologna Children’s Book Fair Illustrator’s Exhibition in 2017 and 2022, The Silent Book Contest Finalist Exhibition in 2019 and 2020 in Bologna, the CCBF Chen Bochui Original Illustration Exhibition in Shanghai in 2020.

She has been recipient of awards like the Compostela Prize in 2019, the second prize of the Chen Bochui Original Illustation Award.

Mariann has illustrated 30 books so far, the latest was released in October 2025. Her picture books have been translated into several languages worldwide from Flemish to Korean.

Her illustrations are full of capturing details and funny little crearures. The longer you ponder over them, more details you discover. The pictures have a witty humour depicted with vivid colours.
